Jeff Harrell was Peterson's football coach at Palestine High School. One day, his boy asked why he couldn't run like A.D.

"Son," Harrell said, "blame your mother .
Peterson's mother is Bonita Jackson, a former sprinter at the University of Houston who used to outrun the boys on the track team when she was growing up in Palestine. His father, Nelson, played basketball at Idaho State. His uncle, Ivory Lee Brown, played one year in the NFL with the Phoenix Cardinals and once suited up with Minnesota.

Adrian Peterson Day
On June 23 the city of Palestine and Palestine Wildcat fans honered one of their most famous former football stars with a day of his own. After three years as a standout for the University of Okalahoma, Adrian was the number 7 overall pick in the 2007 pro football draft.
